SYNOPSIS

During an outing organized by the nursing home where she now lives due to Alzheimer’s disease, Lucienne, a 72-year-old mixed-race woman, believes she has found Solange, the godmother who cared for her at the institution for mixed-race children where she grew up in Rwanda. Their failed attempt to bring the Belgian State to trial for crimes against humanity suddenly resurfaces, forcing long-buried memories back into the open.

Jonas d’Adesky is a Belgian-Rwandan screenwriter and director whose work explores themes of memory, identity, and resilience. He gained international recognition with his debut feature, Twa Timoun (Three Children), which was selected by numerous international film festivals. Since then, he has continued to build a career marked by ambitious projects spanning Europe and Africa.

His latest feature, Kwibuka – Remembering, a co-production between Belgium, France, and Rwanda, has received support from several international funding bodies and is currently screening at film festivals. At the same time, he is developing Papillon, a new feature film backed by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. Through a body of work that is both deeply human and socially engaged, Jonas d’Adesky has established himself as a distinctive voice in contemporary Francophone cinema.
