SYNOPSIS

1943, on the borders of Ukraine and Poland. Fleeing the ghetto and deportation, Yulia entrusts her son Hugo, aged 11, to a childhood friend, Mariana, aged 35, who works as a prostitute in a brothel. Reclined in a windowless room adjoining the young woman’s bedroom, his life is suspended on the noises and scenes he catches a glimpse of through the partition. With his imagination as his only resource, Hugo becomes aware both of the massacres being perpetrated and of the mysteries of sexuality. When day breaks, Mariana invites him into her bedroom, enveloping him in softness and voluptuousness. Soon life will conquer death, soon Hugo will be a young man.
